Antique 1860s Ambrotype Child Portrait in Leather Case | Victorian Baby Photo, Civil War Era

An exceptional, highly collectible piece of mid-19th-century history. This authentic Civil War-era ninth-plate (1/9 plate) ambrotype features a striking portrait of a young child propped up in a victorian studio posing chair.
Housed inside its original, structurally complete embossed brown leather case. The case features a functioning ornamental closure clasp that securely locks the lid. The interior lid retains the original deep purple/burgundy velvet protective pad.
Excellent condition - no rust, flaking or significant emulsion loss.
Dimensions - case width approx. 2.5" case height approx. 3"
The is very tight so the case does not open as "flat" as others.
